Adult Education

Adult Education sessions have been based on subjects such as code of Jewish ethics, Judaism and environmental issues we face, how traditional Jewish Halacha defines poverty or Bible studies around the High Holy days.  We join together for a morning of discussion and presentations on these and other chosen topics.  These topics are announced well ahead of time and reading material is also suggested.  The sessions usually start with a dairy brunch and go into a meaningful and lively discussion, led by a member of the community or our visiting Rabbi. Sessions have been held in the homes of our members who kindly open their doors to the community.

Family Education Program

This is a once a month program held on a Sunday afternoon that has been very successful and grown to be an established part of the educational ‘vision’ of the UHC. This Family Education initiative is a program designed at giving our members a chance to explore Jewish topics as a family. The first year the focus was on exploring the Jewish holidays and now we are discussing Jewish values.  It is designed as an opportunity for this community of families to come together to discuss and learn. The afternoon is full of activities mixed with songs, stories, and discussion and aimed at families with children 6 – 14.

Tots Program and Tots Shabbat

As the Family education program met with such success, and families with children under 4 expressed a strong desire to have something similar for this age group.  Once a month this group meets to cook, learn, sing, and play together, focusing on ‘tots’ between 2-5 years old.  This is also complemented by a Tots Shabbat in parallel with the Shabbat evening services.

Manasseh Meyer School and Talmud Torah School

Manasseh Meyer School and Jewish Learning Centre is the only Jewish day school in Singapore.

The center caters to children of age between 12 months and 7 years, and operates under the supervision of the Jewish Welfare Board and representatives of the UHC. The school provides a dynamic, nurturing, child-centered program that integrates traditional Jewish and secular curriculum.  The UHC has been involved since its inception and places great importance in helping oversee its growth within the community.  For more information please visit www.ganenu.sg  or www.singaporejews.com

Talmud Torah supplements children’s secular education with Jewish learning.  Its aims are to enrich the communities’ children by instilling a strong sense of Jewish pride, and allowing them to gain a sense of appreciation and enjoyment in their faith and religious traditions.  It provides a Sunday morning of activities and learning that enriches their knowledge of basic Judaism, Jewish history, Jewish ethics and values, Hebrew reading and writing (Thursdays), and Israeli culture.
